Complete Upgrade of Operating Rooms as a Turnkey Solution in partnership with Stryker as the Equipment vendor.
What we did
The Gen-eer Team provided Turnkey solution under Design & Build contract. Works to each Operating Room included for the replacement and reconfiguration of the existing HVAC systems to include for Laminar-Flow Grills, Diffusers, Medical gas systems to the Operating Rooms only with the existing building Passive Scavenger system remaining. Electrical systems and Specialist OR Lighting were upgraded for each room with new 3-Phase Feeder / Breaker to the Electrical room. Each Operating room received new Service booms, Surgical Lights, Monitors, and Integration system that were supported from additional Secondary Steelwork installed above the existing Ceiling in each Operating Room.
Unique Challenges
The challenges and complexity surrounding this Project were specific to the ability of maintaining and completion of the construction works without any unnecessary shutdowns to a fully functioning and operational Surgical department. With the secondary structural steel support requirements with concrete coring works, the immediate risks were the Acoustic and Vibration disturbances to adjacent operating room suites and theatres.
To overcome and remove this as a potential risk, Gen-eer scheduled and coordinated these items of the work scope around the Departments daily OR schedule. The Department case loads were coordinated daily against our construction activities with special procedures and a communication channel in-place between the Gen-eer Project Supervisor and the OR Department Manager to strategize in the case of any emergency surgeries.
This collaborative Teamwork approach directly with the facility as the end-users would be communicated down-line to our supply chain teams in the requirement for any construction activities that would be having to be subjected to a temporary hold or cancellation in the case of emergency surgeries.
The Outcome
Gen-eer and the Stryker team provided the Client with a hassle-free project that was coordinated in direct harmony with the daily case load of the OR Department that ensured the safety of patients and staff, with our primary focus of no impact to patient care at the facility. A very successful project completed on time and on budget, but more importantly an extremely satisfied Clinical staff user group.
